5K Race honoring LT. Mark H. Dooley was a beautiful tribute thanks to many

On Saturday, September 15, 2012 the LT. Mark H. Dooley 5K Race was held in Wilmington for the 4th consecutive year.  The annual event is a tribute to LT. Mark Dooley, a former Wilmington resident and police officer, killed in action on 09/19/05 while deployed to Iraq with the Vermont Army National Guard.

The 4th Annual Race was once again a huge success thanks to all the volunteers, donors, sponsors, supporters and participants. The spirit of this year’s race was enriched with beautiful weather, an appearance by Miss Vermont (Chelsea Ingram), live music (by Welkin Again), a delicious hot breakfast (by Chef Joe Gerardi and the Brattleboro Yellow Ribbon Group) and over 200 in attendance.

Hung over the finish line this year was a beautiful
custom banner with a photo of LT. Mark Dooley

The proceeds of the race benefit the LT. Mark H. Dooley Memorial fund which was established by Mark Dooley’s friends at the Wilmington Police Department.  Each year the LT. Mark H. Dooley Memorial Fund donates to the Twin Valley High School (TVHS) athletics program, offers a scholarship through TVHS, and donates to various military support and veteran groups.  Additionally, a percentage of the funds are set aside for the construction of a local memorial.

This year (2012) a race day raffle was held which in itself yielded a $2130.00 donation to the Vermont National Guard Charitable Foundation.  We owe a great deal of gratitude to our generous prize donors who made this possible!
